The 2009 Kia Spectra offers high performance, comfortable interiors, and an abundance of storage space. It comes in sedan and hatchback body styles. The sedan is available in three trim levels: LX, EX, and SX. The Spectra5 hatchback is available in upscale SX trim. For 2009, the Kia Spectra receives a few feature changes. All Spectra models get active front headrests and cruise control is standard on the EX.

Power and performance

A 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 138 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission is standard on all 2009 Spectra models. An electronically controlled four-speed automatic gearbox is available. Front-wheel drive setup is standard on all trim levels.

Body and styling

The 2009 Kia Spectra comes with a whole lot of standard and optional features such as 15-inch wheels (16-inch alloy wheels on SX); full-cloth trimmed seating; dual body-color heated power mirrors; variable intermittent front wipers; rear-window defroster; front fog lights; auto-off clear-lens halogen headlights; cruise control; power windows; 60/40 split-folding rear seat; front-door map pockets with bottle holder; fuel-door, hood, and trunk releases; tilt steering column; power door locks with remote keyless entry; six-way adjustable driver's seat; auxiliary audio input jack; metal pedals; AM/FM/six-disc CD changer with MP3; and dual 12V power outlets in center console. The 2009 Spectra offers 12.2 cubic feet of trunk space and has a passenger volume of 97.0 cubic feet.

Safety Features

The 2009 Kia Spectra is well-equipped with active safety systems to help prevent accidents and passive safety systems that minimize injuries in the event of an accident. Dual front advanced airbags; dual side and full-length side curtain airbags; side-impact door beams; front and rear three-point seat belts; height-adjustable front seat belt anchors; tire pressure monitoring system; lower anchors and tethers for children; front seatbelt pre-tensioners with force limiters; and front and rear crumple zones are some of the safety devices offered on the Spectra. Four-wheel disc brakes and an anti-lock braking system is available on the EX and SX models.
